Journalism in the Age of AI: Data and Lessons from Europe

How can generative AI strengthen investigative journalism rather than weaken it? Drawing on cross-border investigations and newsroom experiments, Sotiris Sideris explores the methods journalists are developing to integrate AI tools responsibly. Sideris will present examples from Greece and Europe’s tourism, pharmaceutical and energy industries to look at what AI can and cannot do in investigative work; how journalists can hold power to account with new technologies; and why transparency and trust remain central in an age of automation.

Speakers: Sotiris Sideris (Fellow, Nieman Foundation for Journalism, Harvard University; Data Editor, Center for Collaborative Investigative Journalism) and Nicolas Prevelakis (Associate Senior Lecturer on Social Studies & Associate Director of Curricular Development, Center for Hellenic Studies, Harvard University; Faculty Associate & Seminar Co-chair, Center for European Studies, Harvard University) as chair.
