Offices We Work with

OVPIA is part of Harvard’s Office of the Provost, which works closely with the University’s academic and administrative leaders to foster coordination and collaboration across Harvard; promote a culture of experimentation in learning, teaching and research; and support academic excellence. Below are a list of offices we collaborate with, in the Provost’s Office and beyond, in our day-to-day work.

  • Harvard Global Support Services (GSS) provides tools and guidance that enable faculty, students, and staff to study, work, and research overseas.
  • Harvard International Office (HIO) provides services to international students and scholars at Harvard College, the graduate and professional schools, as well as the numerous research centers and affiliated teaching hospitals, to minimize the difficulties they may experience both upon arrival and later during their stay at Harvard.
  • Harvard Office of International Education (OIE) works with undergraduate students who are planning for a significant academic year, term, or summer international experience.
  • Harvard Global is a Massachusetts nonprofit corporation dedicated to providing operational support for Harvard University’s international activities so that scholars and students can focus on research and programs.
  • Harvard Representation Initiative (HRI) provides pro-bono legal consultation and representation to members of the Harvard community.
  • Harvard’s Office of the General Counsel (OGC) is responsible for all the legal work arising from the activities of Harvard’s Faculties and departments.
  • The Office of the Vice Provost for Research(OVPR) encourages, cultivates, and coordinates high-impact academic research across Harvard’s schools and affiliated institutions.
  • The Office of the Vice Provost for Advances in Learning (VPAL) creates and catalyzes deeply engaging and scalable learning experiences that make a difference at Harvard and beyond.
  • The Office of the Senior Vice Provost for Faculty coordinates efforts to recruit and retain outstanding scholars, advance their research and teaching, and support their work-life balance.
  • The Office of the Associate Provost for Student Affairs provides leadership to and coordination among Harvard’s 13 schools through collegial vision and shared commitment to the success of undergraduate, graduate, and professional students.
  • The Office of Institutional Research and Analytics (OIRA) provides institutional data analysis and reporting while serving as a trusted resource for implementing best practices in data synthesis and translation.
  • Harvard’s Office of the University Marshal provides guidance and support to university partners in welcoming their distinguished guests and celebrates key moments within our campus community.
  • The Harvard Alumni Association helps connect alumni to the University and each other through a wealth of community activities, continuing education programs, online services, and events around the world.

International Interfaculty Initiatives

Given the complex and multifaceted nature of today’s challenges, the ability to work across disciplinary and institutional boundaries is critically important. The Office of the Provost provides seed funding and oversight for certain large-scale, cross-School, faculty-led initiatives. These Interfaculty Initiatives have substantial faculty involvement from multiple Schools and report directly to the provost or jointly to the provost and a dean.
